Need info from 63 owners on the steering gear cover. At some point during the 63 model year, the words "CHECK-LUBE" were added/cast into the cover of the steering gear. We need the aprox point in 63 production that this first appeared. Thanks.

Hi Micheal:
My 3rd week January 340HP coupe does not have the wording on it.

Re: 63 Steering Gear "Check-Lube" Survey
Michael;
I really hate to upset the apple cart, but my original 19,147 built 09 July does NOT have the CHECK LUBE on it, and the P/NO. does not have a -3 after it either.
I don't know if it makes any difference, but mine was ordered with the "Quick Ratio" steering. I don't see an order code for that anywhere on the window sticker or factory paper work, so I wonder if that is a moot point. The only reference I have to it is the dealer offer letter respoding to my inquiry. Perhaps someone can clarify this too; was that a dealer tie rod adjustment or was it done at the factory?

Stu:
I can't recall a quick steering option for the 63. Possibly an adjustment, but I don't think the factory offered any selection.
Hopefully we can get this confirmed by other members.Tom Hendricks

Re: 63 Steering Gear "Check-Lube" Survey
Just went out to the car. The 5666723-3 is on the cover an there is no Check-Lube. Can anyone without numbers or with numbers post they have none or post the numbers they do have as well as the Check-Lube for Michael.
This is April 20th car 13356.
Thanks

i think the steering arms had 2 different holes to change the steering speed. one for P/S and one for std steering but the P/S setup was quicker steering- Top
