    67 Hardtop-Winter Project-Part 1-Disassembly

Well, got started on my winter hardtop project, per the recent post:

    https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...inter&uid=4248

Thought I'd show a few pics of the progress in dissassembly of the weatherstripping, trim and headliner, maybe get some advice.

Here's the starter, up against the wall in the garage:

I've had the headliner vinyl off once before, re-dyed it, and then tried to glue it back to the decomposed foam headliner backing. No way would it stick.

Then I removed all the front weatherstripping, latch hardware, interior moulding and this is what it looked like:

Again the glue didn't do any good.

So I thought I'd remove the headliner backing, as I'm planning a new headliner. Came out pretty easy with a few places torn:

Just couldn't believe that this was originally just cardboard with foam sprayed on it:

However, I think I'll save it to use as a template for the new repro one, in case I have to trim it.

Then after removing all the chrome trim, this is what it looked like:

That little white strip in the picture turned out to be a date:

Feb 21, 1967, a little early for a June 29 car, but I guess OK, as it is the top that came with the car.

    Here's my organization method:

Found an under the bed box, that every trim part will fit into. Every part and screw was bagged and tagged as it came off. With all the pictures I took, I'll remember where every part and screw (to the head type) goes back in. Even though I'll be buying new screw and clip sets.

Actually the original vinyl, re-dyed doesn't look too shabby:

I wonder if the new headliner vinyl is like the old. Wonder if it would be worth it to have the old vinyl molded to a new headliner backing. Thought I saw a post on this. Any advise?

Well ,next step is to get the rest of the top cleaned up to have it painted in just the right Marina Blue. Then put it back together.

Been experimenting with paint, and just can't get the right silver tone in the Marina Blue, seems to come out too dark with PPG from Levine. So it might be a while. Any advice appreciated.
