    1965 Frame

can someone make some measurements of the indented part at the rear of the frame ?,
ment to make clearance for the rear brake capilar

we (me and Mike Westenberg) need this info to covert a 63 frame into a 65 frame

we already know we need to change or add, the e-brake setup, frame corner gusset , boddy mounts and the depression for the crank balancer

there is probably more to be changed to make it a 65 frame
    any toughts ?

    thanks Sander

Wow, Sander -- wouldn't it just be easier to find a '65 frame ? Here's a couple of pics I posted in Dec of 2006 showing the frame indent to clear the caliper, and the relation of the upper rubber trailing arm bumper on the frame and its contact surface on the arm. Sorry am not able to provide measurements of the indent, but I'd highlighted the transistions with a black marker; maybe someone else can provide these dimensions.

this is not realy a big deal to do ,

but finding an 65 frame would be much more difficult because we are living in the Netherlands

thanks for the picture's now only need the measurements

Yes - it's the same indentation.

                    Gary,

The body mounts for 63 had no rubber cushions so they are taller. I have a similar sheet with the 63 by itself at home. This sheet you posted incorrectly rolls 63 -5 all together.

1965 frames, sometime after January, had the indentation in the front crossmember to clear the 396 balancer

No WAY! Doesn't your uncle Ed's ship hit port next week? You should find a NICE un-tweaked '65 frame there to measure to your heart's content...

BTW, remember there WAS a running change on frames in '65 as the factory tooled up to support the big block cars. So, there's an early build version of the frame while later cars shared the 'new' SB/BB frame.

Could have happened months before January, Dick.

The AIM shows the MY started with basic frame 3864676 and changed to 3869753 roughly at the model year change over point (7-24-64). Then, there was a running change from 3869753 to the final '65 frame (3871317) authorized on 9/1/64.

Of course we don't know how much inventory of 3869753 was in the pipeline back in September of '65. But, we do know that the line didn't shut down when the 396 was released to production. AND we know pre-production 'mule' cars were built in the November/December time frame to supply engineering with test vehicles for shake down at Milford, Etc.
