    Engine classification: N.O.M. ???

I recently posted a thread 'Engine stamp: Question for the experts'. Dated-May 30th/8:49 p.m.
I was very happy with the feedback from all of you. Now I would like to know how do I classify this car? I bought it as a numbers matching car which was true until I received the dealer invoice from a previous owner. The v.i.n. is correct on all components but as discussed before the engine designation doesn't match the dealer invoice.(see may 30th). Is this now a N.O.M. or ???? If and when the engine needs rebuilding do I grind off the v.i.n.derivative and leave it blank as it is possibly incorrect. Everything I've done to this car has been documented. Anything I do will be documented. I will not do anything fraudulent in nature. I would like to make better or properly document a questionable situation.

    Re: Engine classification: N.O.M. ???

What information is on the engine block stamp area? If the casting date is early enough to be block that is within the parameters of your cars build date, the only points you would lose would be the stamp pad information. Some Corvettes do not have original motors they left the factory with. The engine in my brand new 1970 did not last 10 miles from the dealership and the car was on the show room floor the previous day. It still has the replacement block the GM warranty paid for. The block casting data is good enough for NCRS judging. I have the original engine block stamping information on my warranty book plate but no points for that.

Jim, the vin derivative matchs the vin tag and the tranny. The size of the stamps and location of them in relation to the heads matchs the 65 judging manual. As discussed in a previous question posted May 30th, the dealer invoice lists the engine no. as F1204HL and the engine is stamped F1209HH. The car has transitor ignition. I've wondered myself if it may have been a warranty block only because of the close build dates. The jury is still out. Thanks

Hi jim wouldn't the replacement block be cast dated later than the build date of the car, being, it was a replacement motor? And how would that be good enough for ncrs judging?

Morris the block GM replaced under warranty is a correct 3970010 block. The casting date is D260. My trim tag is G08. My 1970 was purchased August 18,1970 new. The stamping on the front pad has CEOA 47538. The casting date D260 is April 26, 1970 and G08 is July 8, 1970.
