Just had my '69 BB rebuilt and a very knowledgeable restoration shop advised me to paint the engine this way. It happens to be a late March engine and these original exhaust manifolds had some yellowish paint residue on them, both outside and inside. This original bellhousing (as well as the fork and boot) had some overspray, as well as a lot of runs, drips and errors.
Question: Do you think the overspray on the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, bypass hose and bellhousing/fork/boot is overkill? Or am I on track for no points deduction, once the paint burns off the exhaust manifolds? In other words, would you have done it this way?
PS - I really like the over-restored look, and these exhaust manifolds looked beautiful after media blasting. I wanted to coat them with something to prevent rust and mount them to an orange block with my re-plated black oxide bolts. I am really struggling with this "as it left the factory" level of restoration. Any encouragement is appreciated on the road to Top Flight.
