Strange Delco Remy D308R Distributor Cap

If anyone can help I would appriciate the information. I was at the Kruse Auction and Swap meet yesterday and bought a NOS D-308R Delco Remy distributor cap still sealed in the orange , white and black box. This is supposed to be the correct cap for my 69 but when I got home and pulled the string for the first time ever I got a surprise. The cap has absolutely no markings on the outside of the cap. It has the aluminum inserts , inside it is embossed Made in the USA and has a number 15 . The correct cap for my car should be embossed on the outside. I am wondering if I have a cap that may be specific to another year or is it a counterfeit ? Any help identifing this cap would be appreciated. I have been all over the discussion board archieves and none of the previous discussions mention an unmarked cap. The box was sealed and the string had not been pulled. Thanks Pat

I think you bought a real Delco cap and at the time it was made and now it will work just fine but for judging keep up the search. I have never had the will to buy and unpulled string. I hope you got a deal or got your moneys worth out of pulling the string. Thanks for the lesson! Lyle

Hi Lyle, It was $5.00 from a vender who normally solls toys. I found it in the bottom a of a box of junk he had setting there. So I guess I'm not out too much. Thanks Pat

D308R is just the generic application #

Depending on what time frame it was boxed, it could have many actual configurations, but being from the pull-string era should narrow it down.

What was the GM part # on the box. I have noted D308R's with 1971244, which had the "047" part # on top and aluminum inserts. Could be mid-70's (???) vintage if it had this number.

As you've noted, even without any Delco Remy logos, it's the genuine article and well worth your $5 for a driver.

Hi Wayne, The GM part number is 1971244. The box is the the orange , black and white box. Thanks for the info. My car is a driver so for the price I paid it will work fine. Heck I can't go to the parts store and buy a good quality cap for the same price.
