I agree with Paul and Bill. Call Paragon up, see what they have to say. Send it back.

I would NOT be pleased with that either. I would have had no quams about dropping off at Paragon, like you said, they do restorations all the time! I'm sure the frame prep for THEIR cars would be much different. VERY eye opening that we have to be absolutely clear on what we can expect for our money. Hope to see your frame after you improve on it. Make no mistake, I like Paragon, but this is disappointing.

          I agree Rich,
But i'm tired of fighting with these people. I spent a day with a sander then took it to another guy who glass bead blasted and power coated it in a day for $600.00. it came out perfect.
This and they still are jacking me around on my door panels means I am done with Paragon

End result looks great! Hope you can resolve your issue with Paragon...they really are a pretty darn good supplier.

I am not sure I would grind the frame rails down to the level of the pits and marks. I prefer to use filler to bring the pits up level with the original frame rail. Plus it's easier to sand the rails than grind them.

                Marty,
No grinding, just hit lightly with 60 grit sandpaper. And the bead blast. The surface was only gently caressed. The powder filled the remaining roughness nicely. I know some don't like powder, but it does make a smoother finish in some cases

                  Ross, the frame looks good.

For the record, powder coating is a tough durable finish and well suited for a daily driver or a car exposed to corrosive climates. I don't have any problems with powder coating, only with how it's used. On a show car or a car driven infrequently and only in good weather, powder coating is not necessary and can be detrimental. It is thick and detectable during judging, it will chip and the easiest repair is to use paint to touch it up, and when you restore the part it is difficult to get it off. It's toughness is it's downfall for me. If I were restoring drivers I'd probably think differently.

Probably a stupid question, but what about painting with chassis paint OVER the powder coating. Probably an adhesion issue, but seems like the best of both worlds. Frame looks 100% better though, keep the resto photos coming. Can't wait till I get to that stage on my '73! Still a driver!

                      Hi Rich,
I did just what you were wondering about…. powder coating and then paint.
I sanded the powder coated surface with 400 grit paper, then painted and haven't had any adhesion problem in 10 years.
Also, the painted surface was easy to touch-up in the couple of places I needed to do it.
                      Regards,
                      Alan
