    Paint dilemma

I purchased PPG Laquer for my 1965 convertible about 3 years ago. The paint was kept sealed and in a temperature controlled area. Now the car is ready for paint and it appears the Nassau Blue is too light.
Does anyone know of original Laquer for sale or who may be able to mix today's Laquer to be spot on?

If you can find some one with tint they should be able to add to it.

        Re: Paint dilemma

It is possible that the "too light" color comes from the wrong size or shape metallic. You need someone skilled at judging paint and a lot of experience with original hues to tell you about the metallic. Modern paint mixes use a very different metallic that those of the 1960s or 1970s. Mixing paint with improper metallic can never be compensated for by tinting.

Spray some test panels and contact John Ballard for answers. He likely will have to see the test panels in order to advise you. He is listed in the contacts page and was a Regional Director (that means his contact information was in The Restorer for a couple of years). He recently gave up that position so look in a Restorer from a year ago.

The paint is too light on a test panel. Not sure about the size of the metallic flakes. The car is 1800 miles away. The shop owner was nice enough to send photos and call.

Russ, Alan, Terry, and Dan, Thank you all for the responses. I would love to find original G.M. Lacquer for this car. Anyone know of a couple to three gallons of the real deal?

                  Dan,

What color did you get? Non-matallic may match.
