    T10 (16 Spline) SLIP YOKE

Can anyone please help me find a 16 spline (bolt cap) slip yoke for a B/W T10? I just had the trans rebuilt and all the yokes found so far do not have the bolts and it doesn't look like the drive shaft has enough clearance at the rear to slide back for the next trans removal if those are used. The differential is out now for rebuild. I'm told all '63 Corvettes had Muncies, but mine had a T10 dated 2-5-63 when I bought it in '85 although the car was an earlier build. I just viewed the current threads on sleeving/rebuilding and wondering if that may be my only option too? Thanks for any suggestions, jim (FL Panhandle)

        Jim,

Hold off on installing the drive shaft until you get the correct (63) course spline yoke.

On all midyear cars, removal of the drive shaft for service will require taking the u bolts out of the transmission yoke ends and pushing the yoke up inside the transmission which will allow the front of the drive shaft to be lowered the removed from the transmission end.

When you re-assemble the rear to the car, the drive shaft install should be done after the rear is bolted up but before the differential front mount is swung up in place (if it's a 63-64 rear housing). You will have plenty of room to tighten the rear u-joints then swing the front mount up and tighten. Get a new snubber rubber cushion for the front mount and make sure the two front bolts are grade eight and torqued per the book, those two front mount bolts should be bolt, lock washer and thick flat washer, check your AIM and look in the archives for information.

Sorry for the long winded, too much coffee this morning:-)

Here's a post I made back in April 2013, just to show the part being discussed.

            Phil -- I think you mean LIC's part 51-70A; $ 205 in a 2011 catalog I have.

Paragon also has listing in their catalog --- Part #1701 - trans yoke with 16 spline and comes with the u-bolts.

                Jim-----

All 63-82 Corvettes use a front yoke with u-joints retained by either u-bolts (all 63-67, 68-70 with manual trans) or hex bolts with straps (68-70 with THM and all 71-82). These types of yokes MUST be used on 63-82 Corvettes.

                    Phil,
Thanks so much for the help. I called Long Island first thing yesterday and just as you said, the yoke will be here Friday. I'm swapping differentials but am having a local machine shop replace all the u-joints and neither of us could find a badly needed yoke. Thanks again and to all of the NCRS members that have helped.

                      Tim,
Thanks for the help and new yoke is being shipped. Before, all I could find were yokes without bolts and I didn't think the tranny could be removed normally if I used them. Thanks to help from several of you members, I should have it all back together soon. jim
