For those that come down for the Kissimmee event this year, stop in at Rogers Corvettes in Winter Park and see the slide presentation of the build of the last St Louis Corvette. I took a few hundred pictures of the car from start to finish as it went from a bare frame to a complete car. Roger now has the slides and I think they are shown in the showroom.
There were two windshields prepared for that last car. Both were identical with the "LAST ST LOUIS CORVETTE" words but one was a spare in case one was broken during installation. (not uncommon) There wouldn't have been time to prepare a second windshield as the car ran down the line at normal line speed. There were a lot of photographers waiting for the car to reach the end of the line and management didn't want to have to install a replacement glass in front of the media.
I still have the original broadcast sheet for that car.
My name and date is written in felt tip marker on a few places on bare glass under the fenders.
The car is #31,611 if I remember correctly.- Top
