    70 License Frames?

The 1970-72 TIMJG page 38 refers to "Each car came with two stainless steel license frames.................". Are these stainless steel license frames listed in the AIM? If so, I keep missing them. Part #?

    TIA,
    Mike

I believe they are in the AIM, but not sure where. Hopefully Terry M. Will chim in here. He can tell you the differences in the NOS and repop frames. I've been looking for some originals for a few years and so far no luck. Even a so-called NOS was a GM reproduction.

Don't have an AIM but I believe they are in the same section as the glove box items

They are in the AIM. Near the front is a page listing items that are to be shipped with the car, and there is a list of part numbers. It may be that not all versions of the 1970 AIM have that page in them, however. I am not sure to what end you want that number. I would bet it is for a package of two frames and was only available for production.

As to a detailed description of how to tell a reproduction or later design from an original, I know it involves the rivet that holds the spring in place but there is more and after that I haven't a clue. I leave that to the folks who judge exterior. There was a thread on here on that very subject, complete with some very fine photos, about a year or so back. Perhaps it will show up as one of the five closest threads at the bottom of this string. If not you will have to search for it.

          Mike------

The frames had the same GM part number for MANY years-----from at least 1963 thru 1982 and for many years after that for SERVICE. However, nuances changed over the many years so you can't just use a part number to identify the correct ones for any specific period of time. I still have the original, unused frames [not for sale] supplied with my original owner 1969 (same as frames for 1970). However, I can't include photos of them since I'm out-of-town right now.

I agree. Most AIMs have a page of items which shipped with the car, but were not otherwise installed on the car when it left the factory.

It's called the "Miscellaneous Shipping List", and it's in UPC 0 in the Assembly Manual.
