    Power steering leak, '94 LT-1

    I have a small leak that appears to be coming from the bottom side of the power steering fluid reservoir, at the large hose running to the pump. This is the original, square plastic reservoir that slides onto the engine bracket. I have not pulled the reservoir off the bracket yet to verify if it is a broken reservoir or just a cracked hose, which is the original hose. Has anyone else had a similar situation and what did you find. I plan on working the problem later this weekend since the weather is finally going to be good enough to get me in the mood to do something. Thanks in advance.

    Kurt, There are two hose that run to pump a return line, which is a low pressure hose and the pressure hose which is high pressure. The return hose if thats the one its generally a smaller hose with a worm type hose clamp that may just need a turn to tighten, if it the pressure hose that theres nothing to do but replace the hose,as they are machine crimped ends.

      I had a small (but growing) power steering fluid leak on my '92 that I had to fix before the PV.
      It turned out to be the power steering pump leaking where the metal line presses into the pump body.

        In the unlikely event it turns out that you need a reservoir, the original reservoir was GM #26024352. It's been recently discontinued and is replaced by GM #10371822. Whether there are configuration differences between the original and supercessive parts I do not know. However, even if your reservoir is cracked, I think it could be repaired with an epoxy like JB Weld.

          Thanks for all the help guys. I finally got in the mood to look at the reservoir this afternoon and found that the hose between the steel line to the pump and the reservoir itself was the problem. Appears that Magilla the Gorilla was the guy in charge of tightening the worm clamps on the hose. I'm actually amazed the hose lasted as long as it did considering the amount of damage done to the hose by both of the clamps.

          Joe and others, there is a significant configuration change in the new reservoir, so much so that it is painfully obvious to untrained eye. The new GM part also requires the replacement of both lines to the pump and the cooler. Total cost of nearly $200. That's why I was worried enough to put this post on without knowing for sure what the problem was.

          Oh, and one more thing, if any one else has the same problem, don't bother with the aftermarket supploiers. I got one from Corvette America, and at abosolutely no fault of theirs the part wasn't even close. It was round, metal and wouldn't even mount up to the engine. Corvette America did a look up and found that they had sold three of the new reservoirs, and all three were returned as not fitting. They were awesome in the entire transaction, and this was the first time I got a part from them that wasn't spot on. (little commercial for them)
