1970 small block cooling fan removal

What is the proper way to remove a cooling fan from a 1970 small block (300 HP)?

You will have to remove the fan and clutch as an assembly = remove 4 nuts (or four bolts) at the water pump flange. Once you have the assembly out the fan can be separated from the clutch = remove another four nuts. You will likely have to relieve the belt tension from the accessory drive(s) before the first step.
