These are the tie rods that came off the car today. They seem original but not 100% the replacements are not curved like the ones that came off the car. Where the originals curved?20120225_170849.jpg

Re: 1960 tie rods
Al,
You might want to see if you can re-use the original clamps and hardware. I don't think the repops are identical to the originals

Re: 1960 tie rods
If the goal includes Flight judging, I'd attempt to straighten the originals and use them. That would permit 100% for originality and a deduct for condition, rather than a big hit (maybe) for originality on the repos.- Top

Re: 1960 tie rods
Gotta be tough to straighten them don't you think Tom? My originals were bent but not as badly as Al's where they wouldn't roll smoothly across a level surface so I elected to get new reproductions. I don't think that I'd take much of a hit if any for that during judging.Keith MacRae

Re: 1960 tie rods
find a friend with a press. That's what I did. Just put it under the press and press it beyond bent the other direction, take it out and keep bending a bit until you can roll it on the cement smoothly (or at least mostly).
Almost good as new, and original.- Top
