I just received one of the new and improved batteries from Restoration Battery. As of December 23rd, their supplier started putting out tar top batteries with real tar on top of the plastic top; price $299.
By installing the battery so that the positive terminal is on the outboard side, against the fender, the Delco logo information on what I assume would be the front of the battery (vertical face) is on the back side. Is that correct? The "458" and the battery model number are hidden anyway by the hold down bracket
I spent an hour trying to get the repro battery cables to tighten up on the battery terminals; same problem I have had with every battery I have every installed on my Corvette, tar top or Walmart brand. I finally inserted a thin sheet metal shim between the post and the battery cable on both terminals and they are still not completely tight.
