1967 1968 1969 Corvette Fuel Pump 427 AC number 40482 vs. 1966

Part 6416741 (AC Spark # 40482) fuel pump for the later Corvette "big block" 427 engines has an extension that lowers the fuel inlet tube (relative to earlier 1966 427s). Why did GM make this change?

1. Ease of installation of the flexible fuel line?

2. Less vapor lock situations?
