    P48 on frame

The body is off my '65 coupe so I was cleaning up the frame when I found these numbers on the right rear underside of the frame. I had assumed the car came with knock offs because of the label on the jack board and the length of the tire tub bolts. The original wheels were not on the car when I purchased it. I'm guessing that this option number on the frame told a worker on the frame line to install the KO adapters before the frame was flipped over. Could there be any other reason for this notation on the underside of the frame?

    Thanks, Chuck Banks

    Chuck -

I'd guess it told the operator on the Frame Line to install the "long" hanger bolts for the spare tire tub, which was installed on the Frame Line prior to the transfer to the Chassis Line. The KO wheel adapters were installed just after Body Drop.

      Thanks John,

I'd thought about that but didn't know when the tub went on. I guess if the car were to get Goldwall tires, the code would have been T01 whether the car had steel wheels or KO's.

        Chuck,
My '66 also has the "P48" written in white in the same frame area. Next to the "P48" is "HD" also written in white. When I saw that I assumed what John H said about the line worker. The car still has it's original knockoffs and long spare tire bolts .
