My door posts have reaped havoc on the fiberglass over the years and I'm in the middle of doing all the glass repair. One thing I need some assistance on is the forward location of the door post. Should it (without weatherstrip) align smooth with the door as in the one pic or be a little offset as in the other. The alignment threaded shaft and pin area was reglassed for the repair so any pics would be very helpful.

Re: door post alignment help (62)
Here are some photos of my p/s door post area on my '62. The first photo is the drawing in the AIM. You will see that the post appears to sit back from the door edge and is not flush. But the final position of the post is more dependent on the clearance/ alignment between it and the windshield frame. The position can vary from side to side. The p/s post on my car is back from the edge like the drawing. In the fourth photo you'll see what appears to be bonding adhesive. I believe the bonding adhesive was applied to seal the gap and smooth the transition between the post and door. The slots in the top of my p/s door measure back from the front corner 10 5/8" and end at 11 3/8".
I will try to upload some photos/ measurements of my d/s door tomorrow.- Top

Re: door post alignment help (62)
Before you tighten the pillar post down, slowly close the door to see if you have the clearance. I don't think it is set in stone where is is supposed to be, you are looking for clearance. I have many an hour working on my 60 doors. You also need to look at the angle leaning toward the windshield post. Take your time and look at both clearance and angle. My $.02- Top

Re: door post alignment help (62)
Yep, They are 1958 (or early 1959) closed top door posts. Corvette restoration AZ. swapped me out for this pair then the owner died and they closed their doors... I have modified the 62 weatherstrip for the car and pre-fitted. It's been a long hard road. My door guts have all been replaced. They closed their doors and I lost a lot...
Needless to say, I wont be in any shows for stock. Taking the car in a little bit different direction.
Good eye Mike. No one has caught that except me so far.- Top

Re: door post alignment help (62)
Here are the photos of my d/s door. The door has been removed so the position of the post is approx. You can see the post is forward of the door frame on this side. The dimensions of the slots are also different. They start at 11" and end at 11 1/2" . Well, I learned something new. I was wondering about the serrations on the door post. It looked like you had a body file taped to the post. I didn't know the earlier (58-61) posts had those serrations.- Top

Re: door post alignment help (62)
Good pics Erich.
Your door looks to be in good condition. I had to do alot of work to get my doors looking good from the door post damage (high stress area). I'm actually making a bracket that rivets to the inner door skin that helps support the upper pins of the door posts. The door posts have an extra threaded hole that I think they stopped using in 1959 that provides extra support. The inner door skin of my 62 has the indentation where it is, but no hole drilled. Not sure why- Top
