62 Wonderbar radio light wire goes where?

The yellow wire that goes to the radio light broke off. I can not figure out where this wire connects to.. I know that it goes inside of the upper front, but i am not sure what it connects to inside. It looks like the solder joint just broke.

Where does this end go? Pictures would be great.

    Thanks,

    tony

Connects to the 'spark plate' shown as Item 34 in the Wonderbar parts list and schematic. This is the 3-terminal electrical connector on the radio chassis that provides power and ground connection. The '3rd' terminal (referenced as 34B) is the lug that supplies power to the radio's face plate lamp that's feed from the headlight switch's dash lamp dimmer switch so all dash illuminated components rise/lower in brilliance alike...

Thanks Jack.. I have been looking for a schematic on-line today and have not found one. Do you know where I can get one?

      Thanks,

      Tony

If you intend on doing bench service on these radios (Wonderbar), you'll want more than just a set of schematics. The signal seek function is largely a mechanical system. So, Delco's companion text giving theory of operation and calibration step-by-step becomes important.

Therefore, don't go looking for a 'free ride' (schematics on-line)... You'll find the factory original radio tech books sold pretty much all the time on eBay. Look for the 'Chevrolet Radio Service and Shop Manual', RS-42, covering the year car you're interested in.

As an alternative, there's always the electrical engineer/technician 'backstop' to go order 3rd party service data from: HW Sams.

I am just planning on fixing this broken wire and I do not plan on doing any other repairs. I have flight judging in 2 weeks and was replacing the light when the wire broke.

          Thanks for the info,

          Tony

Contact Jerry Rudbeck on the forum. He will probably lead you through the repair.

Hi John! First time on here in weeks and the timing was perfect.?. I'll guide him.

Tony, the lamp wire does not hook up where you are holding it in the picture. The bulb wire hooks to the switched contact on the back of the on off switch inside the radio. There are two switch sections, one for power and one for the dial lamp circuit. That's four pins total. Don't worry about that, one of them is not going to have a wire on it and that's where it goes.

You can do a continuity check by hooking up one lead of an ohm meter to the pin (in the picture) that your fingers are aiming at; the dial lamp power input pin. It is the narrow pin that is perpendicular to the widest back grounded pin (if I can call it a pin). Hook the other end of the ohm meter to the switch pin with nothing on it and turn it on. You should see continuity come and go as it is switched on and off.

If you take off the covers, you can follow the continuity through the anti static plates Jack was describing up to where power enters the switch.

Probably over described it but you'll figure it out now... I'm off to watch the roofers sweat some more. Email if you want more help.

Are you all set? I have all the books on that radio if you need something.
As Jerry said it goes to the switch on the rear of the volume pot.

                  Folks,

Thanks for all of the guidance. Given all of your info, I was able to use an Ohm meter and figure out where to solder it. I just finished installing the radio back in the car and it works!!!

Thanks again, I would be lost with out the help on the board!!!!!
