    Don't chuck the timing light

No doubt many of us have a modern Innova (or similar) timing light with an induction pickups. This is for all those who are ready to throw it out when it starts behaving erratically or not at all. In my case there was no RPM registered and no strobe.
You can of course order a new pickup but try this first.
(Note: follow normal TS first from the manual).

On the hinged pick you'll note 2 screws to form the hinge. Unscrew the 2 hinge screws and you'll note 2 bare cooper wires. In the case of mine one of the wire was making contact where one of the hinge screws was and the 2 wires were in close contact with each other. I separated wires and made sure they were not going to touch the casing or the hinge screws (these are fine wires so be careful. There is a clip at back you need to remember to engage so the pickup has spring to it.

Once reassembled the RPMs and strobe worked perfectly. If for some reason anyone needs any photo backup just let me know.

    Cheers,

    Michael B.
