    Gas Filter Problem

I recently had a problem with bad gas in my 65 396/425 - in doing all the things to correct the problem I ordered a new repro GF-416 filter. Went to change my NOS 416 with the repro - first of all getting the old filter off was a buster everything was so tight. Put the new filter on and in spite of trying twice I can not get it to stop leaking gas on the side closest to the carb which has 3 lines going into the fitting which goes into the filter.
Has anyone out there had a problem like this with the new repros? If so how did you correct? Can I use Teflon on gas fittings? any help you could provide would be appreciated.
Someone had mentioned that since the repros are so cheap they might be made in China and could leave alot to be desired as far as the threads go.
