Cigarette lighter lamp

The lamp works the opposite of the other lamps. When I touch the lamp to a ground it lights up without any lights on. When I turn on the lights the lamp goes very dim, almost off except for a faint glow. When I turn the headlamp knob to turn down the brightness of the gauge lamps it glows bright again.

I do not have the socket attached to the ash tray housing since I have the console apart. I do not have the metal console plate in place.

Any thoughts?

Never mind guys.

Ground was disconnected for the console.
