    Top Fight question

Can my '65 Coupe earn Top Flight judging if all criteria is met but I have added:
    Vintage Air
    Side Pipes
    Knock off wheels

Would it be a 2nd Flight? And is 2nd Flight good to have at least?

    Dean,
From your post I presume that the sidepipes are add ons and not factory installed items. The same with the knock offs. However, if they are REAL Kelsey Hayes knock offs, then the deduct would be on the tires (assuming you have DOT tires). The pipes will be around a 100 point deduct. That's a pretty healthy hit. you can lose up to 270 points and still get Top Flight, but with a 100 point hit for pipes, the car needs to be pretty darn tight to still Top Flight. I am not sure what the deduct would be for vintage air, but it will be a decent hit I presume.
Second Flight is a great thing to have regardless.....You will learn a TON about your car from going through the process. In fact, I have OJ'd at many meets and just for the first time took my car to get judged at Kissimmee. I had a ball, and continue to learn about my car daily.
Good luck....and enjoy the car and the NCRS. This is the best organization out there....
    Regards
    ARA

      Hi Dean,

As Ara mentioned, the side pipes are a tough one to over-come, but it is your car and you should do what you like to make it as enjoyable to drive as possible, and if that includes pipes and A/C then go for it. The AC is a hit only insofar as it causes a change to factory configuration, so expect a hit for any holes drilled, cables re-routed, etc. but no deduction for the actual presence of the equipment unless their presence causes something else to be absent.

Also, I think it is worth noting that there is nothing at all wrong with getting a 2nd (or 3rd) flight, and that if you actually drive your car to a meet you can easily get back part or all of these deductions.

2nd Flight is nothing to be ashamed of at all. And, when the time comes to sell the car, those judging sheets and all the details around what is right about the car, are worth alot. What would you rather have, a pig-in-a-poke 'Vette where you have to check all that stuff yourself, or one where experts already have, and what works and doesn't, priceless!

              Joe,

With the 85 point (100%) deduct for paint color not matching the Trim tag, does that not also lead to an 85 point deduct for paint condition (combined 170 point deduct), since you did not get at least 10% of the paint color points?

Or could a car have the wrong color (but a factory color), take the 85 point color deduct, and still get points for condition?

Good question. In reading the judging manual there is no specific connection between the two mentioned, so it appears that they would be judged seperately. Anyone else have any experience here?
