1965 corvette glove box door restoration

Does anyone have any good tips on restoring an original glove box door for a 1965 corvette coupe. I am just starting this coupe restoration and need HELP!! I want to keep as many of the original parts as I can.

I think you might find some good info in the archives. Here's a quick overview.

    1. Do NOT drill out the original rivets.
    2. Carefully remove the original emblem with a knife or other flat blade by cutting the studs under the emblem.
    3. Cut the replacement aluminum insert slightly larger than the opening on the front.
    4. Gently insert the new insert on top of the original being careful not to scratch the new insert.
    5. Line up the emblem holes and install the replacement emblem with glue. The studs of the replacement emblem will go through both inserts - this will hold the insert and emblem in place.
    6. Mask and repaint the body of the door. Body filler can be used to repair any dings on the back of the door.
    7. Use very fine steel wool to polish the chrome trim.
    8. Viola - you have a new appearing original glove box door with original rivets still intact.

    Good luck!

      John,

Take a look at the Spring 2007 Restorer magazine. There is an article on restoring a 65 and 67 glovebox.

If you don't have the issue, email me with your email address, and I'll send you a copy of the article.

          John,

Check your email John. Then edit your post to delete your email address, before you get a bunch of advertisement or a scammer.
