    58 Header Moulding

On car, how easily or not does the header molding come off and then back on again, would like to check to see if plates had all screws in them etc. (loose at drivers side), Thanks, Brad.

not for the faint of heart, it is very easy to stretch the metal when removing and reinstalling, it can be done, but i would exhaust all other means before attempting it

I agree with Doug . This was one of the parts on my 58 that gave me the most frustration . Spent days on it picking it up putting it down until I had to have it and finaly got it to snap back over the frame and Im sure I stretched it getting it back on . The other frustrating part those Wiper cables !

            Brad,

I don't know of any trick to do this terrible task. Over the past 25 years I've done these several times....and I hate it!!! I would rather rebuild two C1 front ends than do just one of those headers!

I removed the header ss from the 59 I'm restoring a few months ago. I cringed taking it apart. It is difficult. I swear they must have used a special hydraulic fixture at St Louis when they put these things together, or wherever they were assembled. I use putty knives and screwdrivers, that's all I can(or want) to remember.

I got the header stainless polished at a shop with all other ss trims, and I am dreading the day I have to put the windshield back together.....coming soon though.

If you have to do it, just be careful of the sharp edges. I still have some battle scars on my hands.
