    Re: Removing block drain plugs.

Got them out today using a pipe on the 1/2 inch drive ratchet.
Once the plugs were removed I had to remove the hard sludge plugs with a pointed punch before the coolant came out.
When the car is running again I will try running a flush in it.
    Thanks for all the info.

      Bruce,

Tap the holes to clean them with a 1/4" pipe tap, get a coat hanger piece of metal and go in there and try to loosen anything.

Plug the holes and fill the block with water then remove the plugs to drain. Keep doing this until your satisfied, that's about all you can do and it's usually good enough.

When you replace the plugs for antifreeze, use a non hardening sealer, I use permetex #2 sealer and tighten until snug.

        Clem,
Actually you might be supprised. I do mine on an engine stand and the blocks are empty.
The cutting torche will heat the metal red hot with wate/coolant.
The ship salvagers cut thru very thick steel under water.
