I have been told that late 72s went from a weatherstrip with hinge pillar attached to fiberglass piece that replace the hinge pillar section. Does anyone know the approximate date of that change? Also, was the fiberglass molded into the rear of the fender, or an additional bolt/screw on piece. Thanks

Re: 1972 hinge pillar weatherstrip
Thanks Patrick. My January car looks exactly the same at the hinge pillar. I thought the hinge pillar part of the WS had been removed on both sides, yet there is no evidence of a screw being in the two holes. Can this be the original condition?- Top

Re: 1972 hinge pillar weatherstrip
Hank, The judging manuel shows that 72 did not have the extension on the piller w/strip. Unless maybe Patrick knows otherwise. I have found that to be true a few times. My apr 72 car doesn't have the w/strip ext.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1972 hinge pillar weatherstrip
To further confuse things my late 71 (last week of 71 production) does not have that piece either. It's an original car and has never been there. All 72's should not have that piece and apparently they ran out at the end of 71 production.- Top

Correct. I can't recall when they stopped installing it, but it was before the 72 MY started.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: 1972 hinge pillar weatherstrip
Thanks again to all!! I must have missed this in judging manual. Could not understand how original owner might have removed both pieces, or how there was no evidence of anything being installed there. Oh well, my first experience with a 72. I'm sure I have much more to learn. Reba, see you on Friday at West Jefferson.- Top
