    Paint/Primer

I stripped the paint in the trunk area of a Jan 1961 and found the same hard to remove black primer on the floor and spare tire well that was painted on the exterior of the bodies. Has anyone else found this primer in the trunk? It was my understanding that GM did not waste time and money priming the trunk area.

    Thanks for any information!

none in my 62. I have bare fiberglass peeking thru where the paint wore off.

Has your car been repainted in the past?? If so, maybe the primer you are seeing is PPG DP-90. If so. lotsa luck removing it.

Don't know about the trunk, but the floor inside the cab on my 57 is painted with this tough primer. I have trying to remove 2 or 3 layers of carpet adhesive using a wire wheel in a drill. Carpet adhesive will come off, however hard, but the black primer is untouched. I didn't think GM painted any part of the floorboard, but this one is painted. -Dan-

Thanks for the replies! The 61 315-HP FI has been repainted, but the undercoating/primer was only located in the trunk area. The previous owners must have sanded the original primer off the exterior of the body. I had to straighten out and crisp up the body lines. I have driven my 1961 270-HP for over nine years since restoration and it is time to refresh it. (year of the 61 is coming) I know that the paint in the trunk area on this 61 is original. I check to see if primer is under the original paint

            Thanks for all the information!
