    Fuel inlet nut gasket

    Hello!

    So I bought a rebuilt Rochester Q-Jet carb for my 71 350/270 convertible. In the process of installing I started wondering if there was supposed to be a gasket for the Fuel inlet nut that keeps the fuel filter in place?

    It sounds like there should be one, but I can't confirm. Can anyone confirm? Does anyone have a part number that I could use to find one at a local part store? Does it go inside the nut or around the base of the nut?

    Also curious if there is a gasket for the fuel line itself? Maybe for the nut that screws the fuel line into the Fuel inlet nut on the carb? I couldn't find anything that mentions one for that, but I just wanted to make sure.

    I just want to make sure that this fuel line to carb connection is correct and good so that I do not get any fuel leaks there.

    Thanks in advance for the help!

    Chad, There is a gasket at the base of the filter housing, you can go to your local parts store, they generally can get them or have them.

      Chad, my '71 Qjet has a gasket on the fuel inlet nut, it is a hard "O"ring that goes over the threads and sits on the thin surface at the base of the nut.

      There is no gasket for the fuel line as it is like a brake line with a taper on the line that seats on the nut and seals when tightened.

      The original AC type paper filters have a gasket that rests against the housing pushed by the inner spring and a check valve type flap to prevent drain back.

        Chad,
        The gasket for the fuel inlet nut was #7032508, replaced by #7037603 in 1993. #7037603 is discontinued by GM but since they came in packages of five you should be able to find one left over at a dealer.

          Is it a little nylon gasket?

            Yes, and NAPA has them.

              I had no luck at my NAPA and I even had the old nylon gasket with me in hand. I ended up going to a carburetor parts guy and I bought several.

                Since these nylon gaskets are getting rare, some of the auto parts stores may or may not stock them, I will say that napa generally can get them overnight if the warehouse is local. I recently got a box of them, because my shop does still have some older corvettes that come in for service.

                  The original gaskets were not nylon; they were steel material. Attached are photos of the original gasket, GM #7032508, and its replacement, GM #7037603. The gaskets are nearly identical as described below:

                  7032508

                  OD= 1.0625

                  ID= 0.8750
