    Another C1 ballast resistor question

Hello All, I have a 1960 Hi Horse Fuel Car and am using a 107 coil....I have recently switched over to a breakerless SE system, My question is, having done that, I obviously do not have to remain concerned about burning points out so what if anything could I expect to gain if I swap out the ballast resistor to the lower value ? ie from 1.8 ohm version to the .3 ohm version..??

    thx, Dave.

    David,

I think it's a good idea to use the .3 ohm resistor but I would call M&H, (the company that makes the breakerless SE) and ask them first before changing.

Post what they tell you because I would like to know for myself.

The more primary current you give the coil the hotter the spark.

OK, just off the phone with M&H.... they state that I should stay with the higher value ballast resistor as going to the .3ohm version would possibly shorten the life of their internal module. Good enough for me. thx, Dave.

I'd suggest that if you're going to run the car with the 1.8 ohm ballast and the Breakerless SE system, why not conserve/preserve your rather rare factory original Delco Remy '107 coil?

You won't see a performance difference if you decide to install a later era '202 coil. Plus, if factory source authenticity isn't important to your driver vs. show engine configuration, consider a NAPA aftermarket ignition coil...

Thanks for the pointer Jack, even though my 107 coil is a repop, its more costly to replace than a NAPA part... Sound advice, cheers, Dave.

              David,

Plus, the NAPA coil will not fail and leave you.
