1964 Tail lights

I am interested in a 64, I have been looking at. I noticed some 64's have back up lights and some do not. The car I am looking at has tail lights and no back up lights. Wanted to know which is correct. Thanks, Joe DeLuca Member 37862.

Hi Joe back up lights were an option on 63, 64 and 65 cars Phil 8063

Phil is correct. One had to specify RPO # T86 for backup lights in 64. About 1/2 of production had them.

Are we sure they were an option in 63?

The Corvette Black Book shows them as an option for 63 - T86 at a cost of $10.80 and only 318 were built that way. I don't believe I have ever seen a 63 with back-up lights. In 64 about half the cars bought that option.

Guess so, but I don't recall them being on the option order list back then. Actually, I probably didn't even know what they were, and then who needs them on a convert?

This is the invoice from 63 #19,746 with T86 backup lamps.

Some options were added during the model year and wouldn't have been shown in early/mid option lists. Back up lamps, tinted glass, air conditioning etc.
