On my '61 I just connected a newly rebuilt wiper Motor and with the ignition on the wiper just keep running. I cannot get it to cutoff. I have the brown wire from the wiper motor going to the iginition side of the coil resistor and a ground wire going to the valve cover. I have not started the car nor put in fluid in the washer tank. Ideas?

Re: '61 wiper motor
Well, the balast resistor serving the ignition coil is going to be 'hot' as long as the ignition switch is in the ON or START position. So, it sounds to me like the wiper motor is doing just what you've told it to do the way you've got it wired...- Top

But does it sound like it is wired correctly? The way it is now it appears the wiper will run all the time that the car is on.- Top

Re: '61 wiper motor
Have you adjusted the cable where it attaches to the motor so when the wiper knob is in the "off" position, the plastic slider on the motor is too?- Top

Re: '61 wiper motor
I don't recall offhand which way the slider goes to the "off" position, but I think it's toward the boss where the screw is that clamps the sheath of the cable. Loosen the cable clamp screw so the cable sheath is free to move, turn the wiper control knob fully to the "off" position, position the cable sheath under the clamp screw so the slider is all the way toward the clamp, and tighten the clamp screw. That should put both the cable and the slider in the "off" position.- Top
