What paint for upper A-Arms on 1963 L75

Are the Upper A-Arms & Cross bars supposes to be painted gloss black just like the lower A-frames? I have looked all over in the 1963-64 Tech Info Manual & Judging Guide. It only talks about the lower A-Arms.

I guess I have to paint it wrong to do it right. Seems wrong!

It's my belief that the upper control arms are a glossy finish like the lower arms. The steering shock is black just like the shocks, I think the gray started in 64.

Agree the shock gray started sometime in MY 64. Lots of early dated pictures around of 63 & 64 black shocks including Nolands book. I've found Judges will generally allow black for 64.

When I removed the original paint from my 63s' upper and lower A arms, it was the tar based paint with bare metal underneath. The old tar paint had a nice gloss when new but weathered badly, coming off with the touch of any solvent/gasoline etc. Your A arms and shaft should be all blacked out except for the ball joint which was installed at St Louis plant prior to final assembly. Yes, they match top and bottom.

The upper A-arms are covered in the middle of page 125 in the Chassis section.

I really missed that one! Never would have thought to look in the engine compartment section. Thanks John & everyone else.
