63 Starter - Joe Lucia help please

    Looked at a 63 coupe yesterday. Starter was part # 1108360. Next to it was "1 F 9 6".
JG says part # should be 1107242.
    For what application is 1108360?
    Is "1 F 9 6" 6/9/61 or 6/9/71?

Re: 63 Starter - Joe Lucia help please

    William,
I know you asked for help from Joe specifically, but here is a little information that may help while your waiting for him. While I do not have the starter number in the Chevrolet full line parts book that I have, I cannot tell you the exact application right now but I can tell you this:
It is not a starter from a Corvette application.
Looking thorugh the literature that I do have, it does not appear that starters with the 1108 prefixes in the number did not come to be until roughly 1968.
As far as the 1 F 9 6, that is the date code and it breaks down like this:
First digit (the 1 in your case) is the year-I would say 1971 most likely
The letter (F) is the month of manufacture-June in your case
The last two digits should be the day of the month (1-31), so the 9 and the 6 do not really make sense to me, as there was no 96th day of the month.
That woudl make this most like from a late 71 or early 72 model, I just am not certain from which one.
    Hope you found this helpful.

Hi Bill, Lynn covered it, 1108360 I think was used with a three bolt starter nose, boats used them. Iam sure Joe will come in also with his 500 word short answer Phil 8063

Starter GM #1108360 was originally used for 1968-74 Chevrolet and GMC trucks with 292 cid engines and manual transmission and some 1970-74 Chevrolet and GMC trucks with 350 cid engines. So, the date on this one is June, 1971.

Thanks to all. Knew it wasn't right, just curious where it came from.
