Carlisle, who's going and where's your spot?

There's a group (5 couples) of us from our club headed out to our first ever trip to Carlisle. The more we hear about it the more excited we are about going. Starting to feel like a 16 year old parking for the first time!! We have the whole week planned out. Starting off in Tuscola, Illinois on Friday afternoon about 3:00 August 21st stopping in Dayton Friday night. One of our first stops Saturday will be in Dresden Ohio at a Frank Lloyd Wright house called the Falling Water House. Then on to the Flight 93 Memorial and stopping in Somerset, Pa Saturday night. Sunday on to Gettysburg to check out the Museum, battlefield, David Wills House, etc. Drive to Lancaster Sunday afternoon to visit Amish country. Being from Central Illinois and only 20 miles from Illinois' Amish country (Arthur) we are pretty familiar with the Amish lifestyle/heritage. Monday afternoon through Wednesday night we'll be in Philly. Things lined up in Philly are: Independence Nat'l Hist Park, Liberty Bell, Valley Forge, eat Philly cheesesteak (OKAY guys, who makes the best one??), Le Bar Lyonnais, Phil. Museum of Art/Gardens, shop 9th St. Italian Market, etc, tour Phillies stadium. Get up Thursday head to Hershey to visit the Hershey Museum, Antique Auto Museum, and antique shops. Maybe tour the Harley plant (but someone mentioned we couldn't see much as they would be shut down/no production). Thursday afternoon head to Mechanicsburg to Wingate get ready for Carlisle Friday and Saturday. If we can get the girls moving Thursday us guys may head over to Carlisle Thursday afternoon. We're getting the Funfield packets. Since I'm pretty new (43807) here on the NCRS forum I've met some of you in person at the Nationals in St. Charles and at BG this year but would like to be able to meet up with some more out at Carlisle. It sounds like several of the forum members are there from year to year. I've tried writing down some of your vendor spots or where some of you plan on hanging out (Vetteheads/swimming pool is on my list, I may have lifeguard duty but not sure yet!!). If you wouldn't mind post where your spots are so I/we can stop by and meet you in person. We'll be the group of guys with our heads spinning around trying to see everything we can. I may even be dragging a set of Ralleys/redlines for the 67 if I can find a set. Also looking for a 837 horn relay, set of front springs and leaf springs. Do they have a place set up where you can arrange shipping at Carlisle?? I don't think my better half would like a 9 leaf spring or ralleys hanging out the trunk of her 50th Annie, although it is a convertible I could carry them in my lap maybe!! If anyone sees something else we need to put on our list of places we're seeing don't hesitate to post. Also we all like to eat so if you know of any GREAT restaurants we need to check out let us know. Sorry for the long post, DAMN I'm GETTING EXCITED!! Shooter

    Henry,

I'll be there Friday just look for the guy walking around dragging an aluminum bath tub in wheels. (to pile bolts in hopefully).
As far as cheese steaks go Hit Pat's and Geno's, they are across the street from each other.
And while at Carlisle make sure you get a couple of sausage sandwiches, one sweet and one hot. They are the best swap meet sandwiches you will find, national trails raceway in Columbus is a close second.

Stop by and say HI at K-135. You will find the number system on line or in the program at the gate so you can plan your route. The rows and spaces are well marked with round white markers at each space.

Shooter, you will LOVE Carlisle. Since attending for a first time a few years ago, it's now a "must" event.
All of the sights you mentioned seeing were great in my opinion, but I must say that even as a history buff, viewing the battlefields at Gettysburg can be pretty dull.
My advice to everyone who would like to see Carlisle,....but just can't make it due to family, job, too far to drive, finances, etc. find a way to go. You will be so glad you did.
        Ridge.

          Hey Rich,
Good to hear from you. Our planner (Sherry, my better half) had Pat's and Geno's marked down so we plan on hitting them both. I had heard someone else here on the forum talk about the sausage sandwiches so they are high on the list also. I make a mean green tomato relish so I may have to slip a jar in the trunk to take with us, it goes GREAT on hot dogs and sausages. Hope to see you. We hope to get there for awhile on Thursday but definitely all day Friday at least. I'll drop you my cell number maybe we can hook up someplace. I owe you a cold one for all the help you gave me on my fasteners!! Good luck with your search!! Shooter

              Thanks Ridge,
I know what you mean about the battlefields. I think alot of it is just to say we've seen it. We went to Yellowstone a couple years ago and after awhile it all started looking alike, but I'm glad we saw it. I've seen Lance Miller (and his Mom)a couple times when they were here at Funfest and they seem like GREAT very down to earth people. It's going to be a BLAST!! Take care, Shooter

Frank Lloyd Wright's house Falling Water is in PA, south of Pittsburgh. He built it for the Kaufman family who owned a Department store chain in the Burgh. They just finished a massive refurbishment. It is cool.

                    Thanks Bob,
You're right, I was looking at the wrong spot on our notes when I entered that. I remember now looking it up and it's near Mill Run, Pa. The girls had mentioned early on about wanting to stop at the Longaberger factory that is in Dresden, Ohio. The guys are trying to pull some of their weight here but as you know, sometimes (most the time) that's a losing battle. Trying to look on the bright side surely they would have a pub close by to hang out in, right??
                    Take care,
                    Shooter

Ya gotta have at least one "Big Smokey" and one stickey bun while you are there. And it has to rain on you at least once to realize the real Carlisle experience I went to CC for the first time in 1986 and have watched the phenomenal growth and the changes in what is there.

                        Dick,
I've got them both on the list!! I think I remember your post awhile back about the "Big Smokey" and the stickey bun and how good they were. Don't know if the Big Smokey and the sausage Rich mentioned are the same but if not we'll try them both. I have to be sure to pack a couple extra shirts, somehow, someway that mustard always find away out of that bun!! Thanks Dick, you going and if so do you have a spot I can add to who to meet? Better stay close to the bathroom, as we get older things like that loosen us up a bit.... Makes the walking experence much different!!

Shooter, not going this year. Am busy with work (thankfully) and do not need to take the time. Hopefully we will make Marlboro and Killeen this year and have Florida on the calendar. Hard to believe that is only 19 weeks to Christmas

Jeez ain't that the truth!! It's hell to have to add "bathroom location" as one of your "priorities" when going out to have a good time!!
