Re: Display Board for Car Shows
In 1974 Automobile Quarterly was doing a piece on the 300SL and they selected one of my cars to photograph for the article. Unbeknownst to me, using a picture of my car AQ also made a poster of the 300SL which they distributed for many years and which I did not discover until the 1986 Historic Races at Laguna Seca (I bought several). The upshot of this is a very nice display board for use at shows and certainly a novel conversation item. Excuse the quality of the picture, my "display board" is now hanging on the wall of my garage, it is raining, natural light is low and I had to move far to the side to avoid reflection from the flash - but you get the idea that all of the statistics relative to the car are included. Also included is a picture of the car from last autumn to show it is still intact.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS

Was that cutaway illustration on the poster done by David Kimble, or James Allington, or Yoshihiro Inomoto? I've done a lot of work with David Kimble over the years.- Top

Re: Display Board for Car Shows
John: Cutaway drawing was done by Inomoto. Same drawing as that used in the Second Quarter, 1975 issue of Automobile Quarterly (Vol. 18, No.2) which has two separate articles on the 300SL. One of the pieces was written by John Fitch who spent the good part of a day tossing one of my cars around the Lime Rock circuit so as to reacquaint himself with the SL's handling characteristics in preparation for his writing the article. I have lots of photos from that autumn day in 1974.- Top

Re: Display Board for Car Shows
Over the years I have always used a company called "Flash Cards" you can reach them at www.showboards.com - they do great work. On mine besides a certain amount of photos and a total production number. I have them make 5 columns listing the followingThis is off my board for my 65)
RPO DISCRIPTION ORDERED % PRICE
L78 425 TURBOJET 2157 9 286.45
19437 COUPE 8186 34 4233.00
N14 SIDE EXH. 759 3 131.65
At the bottom of the price column I give the total cost of the car and under that I list the awards the car has won. This format answers just about anything people want to know about the car. Good luck.- Top

Thanks! I have that issue of AQ (I have them all from the very beginning - charter subscriber, still get it with my name on the cover every quarter); will dig it out and re-acquaint myself with the Inomoto cutaway.- Top
