    Factory air conditioner

The decal on my 1974 compressor reads Motorcraft, code #07 272
1131008 charge r -12 . The color of the decal is black and the bottom 1/3 is yellow. Most A/c compressors I have seen are fridigaire and green labelled.
Is this a correct decal/compressor for my car? Thankyou

Since Motorcraft is a form of Ford branding, what do you think?

It is just odd ,that they would replace a ford type compressor on GM car.

        Guenter:

        Is your compressor a Harrison/Fridigaire A-6?

The A-6 compressors were also used on some Ford models, and that may be what you have. A month or so ago, I saw a 1967-72 GM/Corvette type POA valve for sale in a Motorcraft box with Ford/Motorcraft ink logo's. So they're out there.

Suggest getting a correct label for your compressor from Paragon or one of the other Corvette suppliers. I'm not certain who makes the best repo for 1974. Others will know.

Some additional digging/research shows the A-6 compressor was used on Ford 1972-80, Mercury 1975-80, Lincoln 1971-80, and Jaguar 1972-1978. Also on various farm equipment, which Ford is/was a player. This may help explain the Motorcraft logo and label.

            Dear Larry,

Thanks for the email. It looks like a A6 compressor. Harrison/frigidaire is not on the decal however. I will look for correct decal. Thankyou, Guenter

Plus Daimler Benz used the venerable A6 into the 80's... The unit was considered a 'work horse' in A/C systems.

The point I made was in terms of the LABEL, not the unit itself. From the viewpoint of factory concours correctness, the car wouldn't have a Motorcraft label on its A5 compressor.

The label could have gotten there in a number of ways (service replacement, rebuilt part via Motorcraft instead of Delco or any of the many independent rebuilders, Etc.)... The original gist of this thread focused on the label and that's what I responded to.
