New Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum opens

Yesterday we had a new car museum open in our area. Lavelle Hunt opened the Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum in Decatur, Illinois. If any of you are familiar with Decatur it is in the old Eagles store on East Rt 36. For those not from this area it is located at the intersection of Rt 36 and South 36th St, or about 2 mile West of intersection of Rt 36 and Rt 121.

The museum is owned and operated by Lavelle, a longtime GM enthusiast. Lavelle has a collection of several Corvette Indy pace cars. Some of you may have seen him down Funfest at Midamerica. Another corvette he owns is a 96 Grand Sport and also has a GS golf cart he was riding around Funfest.

Now for the museum. Most of these cars on loan from friends. He has a couple antique Chevy's, one a 1928, also a 57 Chevy, the 50th Anniversary Edition 1962 Impala Super Sport, a 1966 Chevelle SS 396/4 speed, couple C1 survivors, 1958 Restro Corvette, a Camaro draster, several of Lavelle's Pace Cars and on and on. There are also several displays around the perimeter and an old time parts section. Lavelle is also offering space to display cars for sale. Future plans are to have a section displaying drag and stock cars. We went into the museum this past week-end and were really impressed with it. Lavelle has been working on it for the past 6-9 months and along with family members and a few close friends he was able to make a dream come true. They are working on a website now but it's not quite ready. I believe it will be Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum.com all one word. The phone number is 1-888-9BowTie. There's also plans for a car show on July 18 open to all classes. The car show will raise money for and honor the War Memorial in Mt. Zion. If you get a chance and in the area try to stop by and check out the museum, you won't be dissappointed. I believe he has about 50 cars on display. Take care, Shooter
