Re: ignition shielding radio delete
Larry,
First, its radio 'Not ordered', it was an option, not standard equipmment.
Second, if the Vette was not built with the radio option, the ignition shielding would also not be installed, it was part of the radio option.
Now, a heater 'delete' is the correct term, as it was standard equip. and deleting the heater generated a credit to the price of the new car.

If you look at the radio section of the AIM, you will see the parts that were part of the package (U-69 for '65) on the first page there is a list of items (65 reference) that are included in the package. By deduction those are the parts that would be "Excluded" on a car without the radio package.Bill Clupper #618- Top

As the primary battery terminals connect initially to the engine, there has to be some substantial path for the electrons to flow to/from the birdcage and chassis. There's always the copper ground jumper at the steering rag joint, but that is a ground of secondary quality, from frame through roller bearings to the instrument panel.
Would appreciate your and others thoughts on this.- Top

Re: ignition shielding radio delete
Actually, your analysis leaves out all of the ground paths that exist in the wiring harness. The wiring harness in the Corvette is markedly different form that of a typical passenger car in that regard. All the harness carry a separate ground circuit to fill the job done by the body in a traditional car environment. Even some of the grounds in the U-69 package has always looked like overkill, but RF protection is a different animal from the 12V DC system. None of the braided cables are needed to support the vehicle electrical functions.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: ignition shielding radio delete
My 66 is a no radio car and the ONLY two ground straps that it has are the two at the center exhaust/crossmember.
Never had one at the birdcage to frame mount. In fact, it never had the hole in the frame mount for the screw. I have no idea why though. Strange because I'm pretty sure that hole was already in the frame. Or, at least, I was sure.
No condensers anywhere.- Top
