    Natural Finish....

What is a good clear sealant to use on natural finishes on diff. drive shaft, half shafts etc. I'd prefer not to use something that will be a dust magnet, i.e. oily finish. I know I'll lose a point or two, I just can't stand seeing all my hard work oxidize all over again.

        IRBY-

I've been using Eastwood's product "Diamond clear' over the last several years with great results. It's a satin finish for bare metal surfaces that's fuel resistant, heat resistant to 350 degrees and doesn't yellow with time. Part #310300Z.

          Irby,

I agree with Martin. Also, make sure you get the satin finish version he suggested as the original is high gloss. Both are available in 11 oz. aerosol and quart cans.

          Good luck!

            LOUIS-

Have you tried their "Prep Sol" pre paint treatment? It removes grease, finger oil, dust and what everelse maybe on the bare metal before you Diamond Clear the part...great stuff!

                Hi Marty,

Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't yet tried Prep Sol per se, but I've used Klean-Strip (Aircraft Prep) Prep-All Wax & Grease Remover, which I assume is the same type of product.

Congratulations on owning the "prototype" 63 with disc brakes - maybe you should do an article for Vinnie? It might take the "Publish or Perish" threat away from those of us recently mentioned in his Restorer column as being "non-contributors" to the magazine.

I've used Eastwoods satin clear on boxes and diffs. I found it sometimes will crack from heat on both. I use Seymour clear engine paint and it holds up better but is a gloss. For boxes that are to stay bare iron, after blasting & brushing I oil them with spindle oil. This will bring out the natural iron but will require constant maintenance to prevent surface rust. Most street driven cars, where judging isn't the concern, the parts are blasted,etched,POR15'd and painted with high temp top coat. This produces a very durable finish, easy to maintain and will not rust.

Yeah, I don't have disc brakes. Thanks to all the suggestions. Aloha.
