I was wondering if there are any others out there may have a 1971 with the alarm system that have a separate key (oval) for the alarm system. My car has separate keys for the ignition and door locks (square) and another key for the rear storage compartment (oval) as well as a key for the alarm system (oval). The odd thing is that I have what appears to be the original keys with the knock outs that match all three keys. I used the knock outs to have new keys made and all three fit the locks as I have described including the separate one for the alarm. It is a March production car. Just curious. Jim

Re: 1971 Alarm System
James,
I too have a 71 with factory alarm and the round key (storage compartments) should also work the alarm. I had to replace my alarm switch as it was not functioning at the time I purchased the vehicle. It is odd that you would have a knock-out for the third key. Possibly dealer installed alarm and made no effort to have cylinder keyed to match. Mike- Top

Re: 1971 Alarm System
Jim,
My '71, a July build, has one square head key "A" for the doors and ignition and one rounded "B" key for the glove box the alarm and the spare.

My 71, Sept 70 build, has the seperate smaller key for the alarm. The alarm switch is similar to what is pictured in the TIMJG.

Re: 1971 Alarm System
My sept build has only 2 keys, round is same for alarm and rear compartments.
there were 2 style locks. the photo I see in the other post is the older version. that may be the reason for a seperate key.- Top

Re: 1971 Alarm System
James, according to the JM your alarm lock is for a 1970 to about s/n 11000.
from late 1970 to 1972 they changed to the door style lock.- Top
