Finish or color of the Splash Pan Brackets???

What should be the correct finish for the splash pan attachment brackets that are riveted to the underbody at the lower firewall area on a 1965 Corvette? I am assuming that they were in fact a natural steel finish when installed on the under body at the factory like the other reinforcement brackets? I'm thinking that they should have some evidence of black out overspray on the top surfaces or should the entire bracket both top and bottom be painted black? This is a late St. Louis built body.

    Thanks,

James -- here's the best I can do. Part was in a box of leftovers given to me by a local who was going the resto-rod route with a '64 (VIN 8600 range) and a '65 (VIN 10,500 range). Don't know which car this piece is from and don't know if A or S bodies.

It's too darn cold up here in the garage to jack up and crawl under my '65s .

My guess is that the bracket was entirely dipped in black enamel and hung to dry. In the pics you can see the remaining paint is thicker on the edge (where a gravity drip would accumulate).

I realize this is an example of one, so this may not speak for C2 production in general. Couldn't find anywhere in the '65 TIM&JG where this bracket was discussed, although the seat attach brkts are.
