    Another Rally Wheel Question....

I searched in the archives and found that early 67's used "B" coded ralley wheels up to around serial #1200. My question is, my car is serial #01151, so should it have the "B" wheels or the large "DC" wheels or could it go either way?

    Thanks, Chris

    Chris,

It's my opinion from looking at my 67 that was built September 66 serial # 15-- had a mixture of B and DC rally's. I am going to remove the tires on the DC wheels to blast and paint and I will post dates but I suspect they are 9 (September) 66.

I have also read the early B stamped wheels are painted black front and back but mine have argent silver on the front. I think it would be safe to say it could go either way B or DC for your car.

        Chris ---

Wendel Hans, Jr. has done much research on the ralley wheels. Search for his articles in The Corvette Restorer. He has also just finishes an article specifically on the 1967 ralley wheels with great detail (build dates, VIN, wheel stamps, etc.) which I believe is soon to be published in The Corvette Restorer.

Chris - It's not clear to me where the basis for the S/N 1200 came from (perhgaps someone knows) but "B" wheel have been found on later S/N 67s but mainly found on September 1966 built 67s.

The only "acid" test to to remove the tires and check the production date stamp on the inside of the rim.

          Pete

          67 S/N 1476 has a "B" wheels

Chris, if you read Wendels research, it appears as if B or DG would be a better choice than DC. My Jan 67 has DG.

My Dec. 7, 1966 built 67 has all 5 original wheels stamped DC on the outside and 10-66 stamped on the inside.

                  Warren---

I have a Dec. 9th, 1966 built '67 and have read H. Wendel, JR.'s most recent article on the '67 ralley wheels and I'm interested to know if your "DC" stamped wheels have a "good" clear DC stamp or if it is a partial DC stamp? According to the research the Nov/Dec '66 built cars should have a partial DC stamp. I recently found some DG stamped wheels from an early Jan. '67 built car, but idealy would like to find a "more" correct wheel.

                    Kurt,
Your question sparked my curiosity and up until now I have never compared the DC stamp on each wheel. Each of the 5 wheels have a full D and a partial C in the exact manner and location as if done in a jig, which I had never thought about until now. I have included a photo and hope that this helps you for whatever.

                      Warren,

Your photo agrees with the research from H. Wendal Jr.'s information.

My car has a build date of Sept. 23, '66 . Two wheels are B stamped and three are stamped DC. Four rims are dated 8 66 and the original spare has not been broken down to check the date. Hope this helps.

Dave - Great info. Of the 4 that were broken down what do you have? "B"s vs "DC"s? Pete
