    Crimping A/C lines on '67

Anyone have any experience crimping A/C lines, using existing components?

For instance, using the original manifold/muffler assembly, I'm wondering if modern crimping tools work with these older assemblies.

I compared the '67's manifold to a '85 Corvette, and the manifold assembly almost looks like you can swap them.

Granted, the '85 doesn't have the muffler.......but the crimps on the '85 look like they'll line up with the older manifold's nipples.

Meaning, the crimp will exist where the hard line has the nipple around it.

Anyone ever do this???? My goal is to keep the R12 in the system, hence eliminating the old hose clamps and their associated leaks.

    Thanks in advance, Bob

The hose clamps, as long as they are tight, are not responsible for most leaks. The old hoses are somewhat like a garden sprinkler. The newer barrier hoses do a lot better job of holding freon in. The compressor seal is probably the major source of leaks, especially if the compressor is not operated regularly.

      I agree with Dickie.

Both of my 67s have both original hoses and clamps, and they still hold like new. Never a leak.

But, The crimps will work if you insist.

The high pressure hose usually leaves an oily residue when it is leaking. The amount of the residue is related to the size of the leak. Some times it shows up as a film of dirt or a greasy substance - particles sticking to the oil residue.
