    Judging cylinder heads

Can someone tell me what do judges look for when looking at cylinder heads. Someone mentioned to me that heads are not judged because the dates are inside the covers can someone shed some light on this subject. I have a build date of Nov 1959 So my holes are not staggered. Do they look at any particular things on the head that tell them they are not the correct type of head for that car.

    Stuart,

Head dates are not judged, but the external configuration is. So for example if your car double hump head and there was a different head on the car, you'd lose some points. Does this help?

      Stewart -

They also look at the surface on the casting symbol on the end of the heads - Flint heads have that surface machined flat, perpendicular to the deck surface, and the casting symbol surface on Tonawanda heads is rough as-cast with no machining.
