As a follow up to my earlier post today, has anyone had experience having original spinner and spacers rechromed? While it would probably be more expensive than buying repos, it may help in maintaining originality.

Re: Rechrome Spinners
I've never heard of anyone doing this... The parts are die cast pot metal and typically when the chrome plating goes, there's also a LOT of pit present.
Chrome plated pot metal ornaments 'can' be re-worked, but you're looking at a LOT of time/$$$ here! The chrome plate has to be stripped off and individual pit holes hand filled and polished flush to the adjacent surface before the re-chrome process can be started.
Some classic car parts of this nature simply are NOT available in reproduction or NOS form and those guys are stuck with going the 'long' route. I've heard of some who've forked out $500-1000 for the restoration of various hood ornaments!!!
So, have at it if you're that serious about keeping that aspect of your car's originality intact. But, it's basically time and $$$ that keep others from going the route you're proposing...- Top

Re: Rechrome Spinners
Thanks to all who replied. Jack, I especially appreciate the detailed information on the rechroming. While the hubcaps look terrific given the car's age, the spinners and spacers show varying degrees of pitting. Two of the four are fair but the other two are closer to poor in my opinion (still shiny but many blemishes from pitting). I think my maintenance/restoration dollars could be better spent. Dave- Top
