    89 Coupe A/C.

My 89 coupe no longer blows cold air....cool....but not cold. I have an old copy of Vette magazine....1998....which has an ad for FRIGC FR-12 as a substitute for R-12. Anyone know anything about this product or is there another alternative for fixing the A/C system. Thanks for the help.

Many A/C and body shops hae a stock of the "Real Deal" R-12 (not cheap) for use in applications where the owner does not want to convert. I'd check around, They also can check for any big leaks, although an '89 might just be of the age when normal leakage has taken it's toll. Mine is a C-68 and those are a little more touchy, either wook or don't, but about 1/2 Lb got mine back to snuff. At that rate, I could recharge every few years for about 20 years and never cover the cost of conversion.

Frigic and all the other alternatives create problems down the road when they have to be serviced. No reputable AC shop will reclaim/recycle these products as it takes a special machine to do so. Most have already invested over $5k in R-12/R-134a machines and do not have the inclination to spend another $5k.

Clup gave you a good answer, find someone with R-12 and get them to top your system.
