    Strut rod bushing installation-need help

Never rely on your memory....oh I tried and it doesn't always work . I've purchased new strut rod bushings which come in a steel sleeve...this is where my memory fails me . Does the sleeve and new bushing get pushed into the end of the strut rod or do I push the bushing out of the steel sleeve into the end of the strut rod? I don't remember the steel sleeve being there when I took out the old bushing. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Regards,
    Mike #28614

The original bushings were vulcanized in place and use no outer steel shell. They can be somewhat of a PIA to remove. Some burn them out, but I don't. Just press them out in a press as best you can and then clean up the bores.

The new bushings press in WITH the steel outer shell. The steel outer shell is an interference fit in the strut rod end bores. There is a special press tool available from most of the Corvette parts vendors for this job and it carries only a nominal cost. However, you don't absolutely need the tool. You can use an improvised tool and an hydraulic or arbor press.
