1986 Cassette tape pop-out problem

My 86 has what I'm told is a common problem. When the cassette tape is pushed in, it clicks a couple of times and pops back out. (can't call it 'ejects'--I don't think it fully connects)
Question: is there any known cure for this problem without removing the radio and sending it to the repair shop?
Is it possible that a Chevrolet factory bulletin exists?

Assuming that you know it's not a cassette problem, I don't know of any cure for it other than removing the unit and sending it out for repair. Actually, if the unit is original to the car and it's never been serviced, it's LONG overdue, anyway.

Make sure, though, that you test it with a KNOWN GOOD cassette. Cassettes have a limited life and when they get old, especially if they've ever gotten hot, the case becomes "distorted" and the reels require much more force to turn. That causes the cassettes to pop-out.
