Well, Couldn't resist heading back today to recheck the 1960..... http://tinyurl.com/38l58z
Considered bidding on it. I checked this car out Thursday while there but didn't have my reference info with me. It was scheduled to go on the block today around 1:30. Here's what I saw.
Vin 8263, early June 1960 car. 519 block, cast date E200, assy F0523DG, 230 HP Powerglide. Appeared to have nice broach marks after viewing the macro pic I took. Saw no pyramids on the heads. Maybe replaced at some point. Repaint as described. Engine bay quite original, no ign shields anywhere. Appeared to have it's original fresh air hose.
Pitted chrome, rough areas of paint, not too neat. Lots of oversparay red underneath on fiberglass. Cracked side glass and wiper haze on w/s. Antenna hole on rt front fender with electrical tape covering the hole. Rear crossmember replaced many moons ago it appeared, telltale bolts instead of rivets.
Interior original vinyl and carpet. Fair chrome & ss trims. Fairly new soft top, with hardtop. Showed it age.... 47+ years old.
Driver came to take it to the block. He was having trouble getting the key in the ign switch, so I showed him how(insert straight, not at an angle) and he started it right up. Engine sounded good. Followed it to the staging area waiting for the owner. Never showed.
On the block it quickly hit 30k, 35, 40, 45, 46, 47, 48. I was thinking around 50-53 because of the commission. I had several bids along the way. When it jumped rapidly to 55 I walked away. The car sold for $57,000. Add 10% buyers commission, total $62,700. Seller pays 8%, $4560.
All in all it appeared the prices were up on some cars, down on others. The quality or cars this year seemed less than last year. It also appears that several cars were removed from the listing. Example.....Lot #663, a 1963 Z06 Top Flight/Bloomington Coupe with Z03 big tank didn't show. Several others in the consignment book never made it to the block also. Hmmmmmm?
